  • deceased member Gwen Mason28-Nov-2011 – Fraternity member Gwendolyn Mary Clare Vavasseur Mason - known affectionately as Gwen - passed away at the age of 84. Her funeral Mass was held at the Franciscan Monastery on December 2. Gwen was professed in 2008 and was an active member of our fraternity until recently, when she became quite ill. She is survived by her loving and supportive husband, Robert, of 65 years, as well as many, many family members. Our hearts go out to Gwen and her family in this time of their loss, yet we rejoice in the example of Gwen's life and the way in which she lived her faith.
  • profession class 201120-Nov-2011 – The entire fraternity looked on proudly as seven candidates profess to live the Gospel life according to the spirit of St. Francis (picture at right).
  • 8-Nov-2011 – Fraternity member Teresa D. Peña-Bohan passed away. Her funeral Mass was held at St. Andrew the Apostle Church on November 16. Teresa was professed in 1962 and has been ill for some time.  She was preceded by her husband and leaves behind siblings and many nephews and nieces.
  • 3-Oct-2011 – A very moving Transitus ceremony was held at the Monastery.
  • 30-Sep-2011 – Added web page on signs that one is called or not called to the Order.
  • 18-Sep-2011 – The spirit moves in ways mysterious: We were missing a power cord for the projector at our meeting, and we prayed. Friar Maximillian Wojciechowski, O.F.M., one of whom we asked, found a spare cord and lent it to us. Thank you, Fra. Max!
  • 18-Sep-2011 – Ann Corro, OFS, Regional Councilor for the DC Metro Area, made a fraternal visitation to our Fraternity. For more information on Fraternal Visits, see Article 93 of the General Constitutions.
  • 15-Sep-2011 – Handouts for upcoming fraternity meeting added to handouts page.
  • deceased friar Aloysius 25-Aug-2011 – Friar Aloysius (Armando) Florio O.F.M. passed to his great reward today. His funeral Mass was on Tuesday, August 30, followed by interment in the Monastery cemetery. May the souls of the faithful departed, especially those of our extended Franciscan family, rest in eternal peace in the presence of our Lord.

  • deceased member Sarah Hurd9-Aug-2011 – Fraternity member Sarah Hurd passed away today at the age of 103. Her funeral Mass was on August 17. Sarah was professed in 1962 and was an active member until the last few years when her health failed. May the souls of the faithful departed, especially those of our members and their families, rest in eternal peace in the presence of our Lord.

  • 10-Jun-2011 – No meeting this month! We will have our regular meeting in July.
  • 17-Apr-2011 – Chris Cropper, our Vice-Minister, gave another talk in the Franciscan Spirituality Series, this one entitled The First Followers
  • 20-Mar-2011 – Fr. Kevin Treston, O.F.M., our Spiritual Assistant, gave an excellent talk on the origins and historical context of the Secular Franciscan Order.
